It takes a village.

Our organization boasts more than 220 local volunteers who fill a broad range of roles and help make the efforts of Care of the Piedmont possible. Without these extraordinary individuals our services from the Hospice House, bereavement camps, Hospice Store and support for our patient visits and respite care for caregivers wouldn’t be possible.

All our volunteers go through up to 18 hours of extensive training by our Care of the Piedmont staff to ensure everyone who represents our organization does so with the professionalism and care in which we approach every aspect of what we do.

These training opportunities are offered twice a year by our staff and include an introduction to the hospice philosophy, communication styles, family dynamics, the exploration of the grief process and more.

Elevated Support Volunteer

An Elevated Support Volunteer provides compassionate, non-medical support to individuals and families facing serious or life-limiting illness. They offer emotional, practical, and spiritual support, helping patients and loved ones navigate difficult conversations, honor personal wishes, and find comfort throughout the journey. Working alongside our team, an Elevated Support Volunteer helps create a more peaceful and meaningful experience by offering presence, guidance, and support every step of the way.

Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont is currently seeking volunteers who are interested in being trained as Elevated Support Volunteer. If you feel called to provide this meaningful support to patients and families, we invite you to contact us to learn more about upcoming training opportunities.

Hospice Store Volunteers

Over the years, our thrift stores (located in Greenwood and Abbeville) have provided a way to increase awareness of Care of the Piedmont efforts in our community, while offering a unique and fun shopping experience for locals hoping for their next great find!

One-hundred percent of the proceeds from our Hospice Stores directly support the operations of Care of the Piedmont – and we rely on volunteers to help receive donations, sort and price merchandise, assist customers, and organize displays on our sales floor.
